CONCLAVE
Hosted by costume designer Lisy Christl
ARCHIVED DISCUSSION
FRIDAY | FEBRUARY 28 | 11 AM PT
In Edward Berger’s Oscar-nominated Conclave, cardinals from around the world convene to elect a new pope. They traverse courtyards swathed in identical vibrant red mozzettas. Seated in the Sistine Chapel, they form a wave of vermilion holiness, accented by the statement pectoral crosses around their necks. Lisy Christl’s costume design commands the eye, immersing us in Vatican politics where beneath uniformity a web of individual agendas are spun.
The Academy Award–nominated costume designer joins us to answer your questions and discuss her creative approach to religious attire.
