In 2000, directors Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe began documenting the preproduction of Terry Gilliam’s epic adaption of Don Quixote. What was initially planned as a straightforward behind-the-scenes film (Fulton and Pepe had also directed a making-of for Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys) soon became the incredible chronicle of a doomed passion project, complete with an unforgiving desert, damaged equipment, injuries and $15 million insurance claim.
“By finding the dark comedy at the center of the story, we were able to build a portrait that was both unique and universal,” reflects the film’s editor, Jacob Bricca. Following a live screening, Bricca will answer questions and share insight into the process of shaping a film about the reality of production and bloated cinematic ambition.
